Overhead Smash (ハンマーナックル Hanmaa Nakkuru?, "Hammer Knuckle") is an attack used by the Jack series of robots from the first game until Tekken Tag Tournament. It is also performed by Prototype Jack, Ganryu, Kuma I, Kuma II, and Panda, but the latter two had theirs replaced in Tekken 8 by Demon Breath. Its original input in Tekken was d/f+1+2, but starting with Tekken 2 it also has an alternative input of 1+2. As of Tekken Tag Tournament, P.Jack can only perform the 1+2 variant, likewise with Jack-5 in Tekken 5. The Jack series would drop the string entirely starting with Jack-6. Kuma and Panda also lost the d/f+1+2 input in Tekken Tag Tournament after they were given Bear Headbutt, while Ganryu lost his at Tekken 5, where it was replaced with the Ganryu Combo.
Usage
From Tekken 2 onward, it can be chained into the Double Hammer with a second 1+2. In Tekken, Kuma's version can also hit the opponent on the ground due to the length of his arms, this can make it almost impossible for the opponent to recover if the move is spammed after a knockdown.
Since Tekken Tag Tournament, Kuma and Panda have been able to transition to Hunting by inputting f. This was changed in Tekken 5, where inputting 3+4 will make the transition. Since Tekken Tag Tournament 2, inputting f during the attack will now transition the user to Forward Roll.
As of Tekken 5, Overhead Smash is no longer included in official movelists as it is considered just the first part of Double Hammer, or Triple Hammer in the case of Kuma.
During Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion, Jack-6 would lose the ability to perform the Overhead Smash due to it being replaced with the Cyclone Hammer.
In Tekken 7, Kuma's Overhead Smash now forces crouch instead of knocking an opponent down normally, but becomes a counter hit launcher if used with the Double Hammer. Ganryu's version was made more similar to Kuma's, in the sense that he can transition the Overhead Smash to Tachiai, and that the first hit no longer knocks down on normal hit. A differing factor, however, is that Ganryu's Overhead Smash will receive its original property on counter, but it will not send the opponent far away, allowing Ganryu to actually get a combo.
